Sustainable Buildings Day
A poster - Sustainable Buildings Day

September 27th 2007 - 09.30am to 2.30pm

George VII Memorial Hall
High Street, Newmarket, Suffolk.

Our next event for children and young people.

Building on the success of our 2006 Architecture Week event  - we're thinking this time about the future of buildings and the use of natural power sources.

Working in groups to discover uses for wind, water and sun - building models and shelters from natural materials.

Teaching and learning will take place through slides, film and group work - using our successful mix of story telling, making and building our ideas, working together.

Letters, as last year, will shortly be sent to all our schools - but you can download the event flyer by clicking the image above.

A site/event Risk Assessment undertaken for the event can be found on our download page. Read more...>>

We thank Newmarket Town Council for their generosity in making this event possible.

August 2006
ImagineNewmarket Chair presents certificates...

Tim Young, Chair of ImagineNewmarket, commissioned the production of commemorative certificates to say thank you and mark the involvement of project partners - local schools and businesses - in the delivery of our Design It Day.

Tim Young & Joan WeingaertnerTim remarked that '...the involvement of local young people in our project marked the beginning of the design process for our regional landmark building.

What it looks like, what is in it - will all be the product of the energy and imagination of young people'.

To mark the support of business in the delivery of the ImagineNewmarket vision Tim presented Little Angels, Bury St. Edmunds with a framed certificate to mark their significant contribution to our start up process.

Tim Young of ImagineNewmarket  and Joan Weingaertner of Little Angels, Bury St. Edmunds.

Children will be able to explore space, materials and develop ideas in a safe, friendly atmosphere.

We will learn about buildings, how they are built and creating a 'wall of ideas'.

Young people attending will also have the chance to contribute to a Children's Forum and to give their ideas about the creation of ImagineNewmarket, our new Imagination Centre in Newmarket.

Architecture, community and young people in action. Turning ideas into reality.

Members of the Vision Team  visited  Discover in Stratford, East London. Looking to see how it can be done and to find out what works well.

Thank you to the Discover team for making us so welcome during a busy day.

This Imagination Centre, created in refurbished buildings in East London has an exciting garden, with an interior that has been created to stimulate imaginations through storytelling.

The centre is visited by thousands of school children throughout the year and offers its users a wide range of activities and events to to stretch minds and 'imaginings'.

January 2006
news and events at ImagineNewmarket This month our plans include work around the following...

Consultation:

This web site, for example, is all about the businesss of building an Imagination Centre and the process of establishing our charitable organisation.

The Vision Team are committed to involving children and young people in these processes. As you revisit this web site in the future you will see the creative energy and ideas of Newmarket's young people reflected in what you see.

We are taking the message of our project out into the community from this month. We will be very happy to arrange talks and presentations to to community groups and partners in West Suiffolk about our project.

Contact us on information@imaginenewmarket.org.uk if you would like to know more.

Our Charitable status:

The Vision Team will, from this month, be pressing ahead to formalise their organisational structure. We would still like to hear from anyone who would be willing to volunteer their time as a potential trustee of ImagineNewmarket.

We meet monthly for support, ideas and progress reports. The Vision team are committed to providing appropriate induction and training for trustees - working always to deliver our efforts using best practice and  with the full support of our partners.

Contact us on information@imaginenewmarket.org.uk if you would like to know more.

Development funding:

Linked to the formalising of our structure we are beginning the process of raising development funds for our project. We would like funds to undertake full and formal consultations with our community, to fund the creation of design and build options and to provide for public events and training for the Vision Team.

We want to use our energy to create visual models that offer choices, that help us to show interested groups what is possible.
